HILLCREST MEMORIALS 2000

The Hillcrest Mine Disaster Millennium Memorial was erected in 2000 to honor the victims of coal mining disasters in Canada. Featuring individual monuments from each province and territory, the memorial stands as a tribute to the 189 men who lost their lives in one of the worst mine disasters in Canadian history. The central monolith surrounded by provincial stones serves as a poignant reminder of the tragedy that occurred in Hillcrest in 1914. Visitors can explore the cemetery's informative interpretive walk and pay their respects to those who perished.
