RAPURE ACADIENNE

Rappie pie, a traditional Acadian dish originating from southwest Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island, is a casserole-like delight made by grating potatoes and combining them with broth, meat, and onions. The name "rappie" comes from the French term "patates râpées," meaning 'grated potatoes'. The dish is believed to have its roots in the Acadian Expulsion, with influences from German or Swiss immigrants. Due to the fertile potato-growing land in the Maritimes, this dish became a staple for the returning Acadians.
